About Anthony "Showtime" Pettis

TRAINING: Training is a combination of strength and conditioning, kickboxing, jiu-jitsu, and MMA. I focus on specific disciplines every day, and nutrition is a big part of my camp.

When and why did you start training for fighting?
I have been doing martial arts my whole life since the age of five. My father would push me to train hard everyday.  On November 12, 2003 he was killed in a house robbery.  I knew from that day I would make him proud and become a professional fighter.

What ranks and titles have you held? WEC lightweight champion, Gladiators Fighting Lightweight Champion.  3rd Degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do.

Do you have any heroes? My dad, he was killed in a house robbery in 2003 and I still use many of the life lessons he taught me.

What is your favorite technique? I am a very flashy fighter so I like any technique that makes the audience go crazy.

What does it mean for you to fight in the UFC? This is a dream come true. I dedicated my life to making it where I am at and I’m very excited for a long career in the UFC.

Did you go to college and if so what degree did you earn? Yes, I went to the fire academy.

What was your job before you started fighting?

Early lifeBorn to Eugene Pettis Jr. and Annette Garcia, Anthony Pettis grew up in the south side of Milwaukee, Wisconsin along with his older brother Ray Pettis and younger brother Sergio "Lil' Showtime" Pettis.[1] Pettis is of Mexican and Puerto Rican ancestry, his grandfather Anglicized the family name from Perez to Pettis, to avoid discrimination. Pettis attended Dominican High School.[2][3] He started training Taekwondo and Boxing at a very early age.

CareerAnthony "Showtime" Pettis made his professional MMA debut in December 2007. He compiled an undefeated record of 8-0 in shows all based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin before debuting with the WEC. Pettis also has a professional kickboxing background.

Pettis is coached by legendary Kickboxer and MMA trainer Duke Roufus and is a member of Roufusport where he trains with fighters Alan Belcher, Erik Koch, Ben Rothwell, Ben Askren and Danny Downes.[4]

World Extreme CagefightingPettis made his WEC debut at WEC 41, where he defeated Mike Campbell via triangle choke.

He was then expected to fight Rob McCullough at WEC 44 on November 18, 2009, but was pulled off the card with an undisclosed injury.[5]

Pettis suffered his first professional loss on December 19, 2009 at WEC 45, dropping a close split decision to Bart Palaszewski.[6]

Pettis rebounded from the loss with a head kick KO victory over Danny Castillo on March 6, 2010 at WEC 47, earning Knockout of the Night honors.[7] Training for the fight, as well as Pettis' family life, were both documented on an episode of the MTV show, World of Jenks.[1]

Pettis suffered virtually no damage in the bout with Castillo and made a quick return at WEC 48 against Alex Karalexis.[8] He won the fight via submission in the second round.

Pettis faced Shane Roller on August 18, 2010 at WEC 50.[9] Pettis surprised many by taking down Roller multiple times and frustrating him with fast paced scrambles. Pettis displayed a lot of diversity in his striking, namely two Capoeira kicks, including the martelo as well as the aú batido.[10][11][12] After several submission attempts, Pettis finally secured a fight ending triangle choke in the closing seconds of the fight, earning a Submission of the Night bonus.

His last WEC fight came against Benson Henderson on December 16, 2010 at WEC 53 for the WEC Lightweight Championship.[13] The fight was closely contested throughout, providing back and forth action, both standing and on the ground. In the fifth round, Pettis jumped off the cage with a move now known as the Showtime Kick with his right foot, making a shearing movement with his left leg, then kicking Henderson in the face with his right foot.[14][15] Pettis won the fight via unanimous decision (48-47, 49-46, 48-47) to become the final WEC Lightweight Champion. The fight was also awarded as Fight of the Night which won Henderson and Pettis an extra $10,000.[16]

Ultimate Fighting ChampionshipIn October 2010, World Extreme Cagefighting merged with the Ultimate Fighting Championship. As part of the merger, a majority of the WEC fighters were transferred to the UFC.[17]

Pettis was expected to face the winner of Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard, which took place at UFC 125.[18] However, the bout was declared a draw, and Edgar/Maynard 3 was scheduled for UFC 130, but both fighters received sustained injuries before the fight, which was postponed.[19]

Instead of waiting for the winner of Edgar/Maynard 3, Pettis faced Clay Guida on June 4, 2011 at The Ultimate Fighter 13 Finale.[20] Despite repeatedly getting taken down by Guida, Pettis showed good defense off his back, controlling Guida's wrists and attempting multiple submissions, while taking little damage, even securing Guida's back. However, Guida was able to escape and in return secured Pettis's back to end the third round ultimately giving Guida the victory via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27).[21][22]

Pettis defeated Jeremy Stephens via split decision on October 8, 2011 at UFC 136 in a closely contested bout. Pettis used superior wrestling to control Stephens which was especially showcased in round 2, where he was able to take Stephens down three times.[23]

Pettis faced Joe Lauzon on February 25, 2012 at UFC 144.[24] He won the fight via first round KO, with a head kick followed by punches. His performance earned Knockout of the Night honors.

After spending the majority of 2012 recovering from a litany of injuries,[25][26][27] Pettis faced Donald Cerrone on January 26, 2013 at UFC on Fox 6.[28] Pettis won the fight by TKO in the first round, finishing Cerrone with a kick to the body. The performance also earned Pettis Knockout of the Night honors. After the victory, Dana White said he was 'sold' by Showtime Pettis and admitted that after Benson Hendersonagainst Gilbert Melendez on UFC on Fox 7, Pettis will be the next to fight for the Lightweight title shot.[29]

On February 5, it was announced that Pettis would not wait for a title shot at lightweight, and would instead be dropping down to 145 pounds to challenge featherweight champion, José Aldo at an August 3, 2013 event.[30]

Personal life Along with Duke Roufus, Pettis owns the Showtime Sports Bar in Milwaukee.[31][32]

Pettis along with Jon Jones, Urijah Faber, Joseph Benavidez, Mark Muñoz, Chad Mendes, and Scott Jorgensen starred in a Form Athletics (now owned by K-Swiss) commercial.[33]

    I'm a Michael Andreula Maniac.
    by HenryKisser

"Started this program after finishing the other for the first time. I just finised Power Striking. I have never been an overweight individual, so weight loss has not been a big factor for me. Although, I have noticed myself tightening up and looking good in pretty much any clothes I buy. Mostly, I've noticed small, but really awesome changes. In all the years I did MMA, i could never manage to motivate myself to strike the bag nonstop. Today I used the CMWS, I did it for the first time ever no trouble. I was also amazed when the hour had past and I felt great. I struggled at first during the total body workout, but I was actually able to do it completely today. So, apparently my core and balance aren't perfect yet, but this program has done more for me in 3 weeks than all my years of other extreme fitness programs ever did. If you do buy this program, don't get discouraged if you can't do all the moves at first. Just keep at it. I definitely recommend this program!"

The Hard to Believe Fat Loss Story of a Formerly Fat, Lethargic and Out of Shape Dad and Busy Exec

"Thomas here and I was formerly out of shape dad and busy executive. Warning this is going to be a long review because these workouts have changed my life, maybe even saved my life. I first met Mike a CKO Kickboxing I moved and started using the 1 Hour Heavy Bag Workout and Power Striking. I'd like to share with you how I went from being tired, out of shape and miserable to becoming a lean, energetic and a much happier, much more optimistic guy; all with just a very small time commitment and a few small changes to my lifestyle. I am sharing my story because I realized that I'm just like most people out there. You see, I used to be one of the millions of people running an ultra-busy life with a ton of responsibilities and no time to workout. My schedule was crazy! Between work, my family and all my other responsibilities, there was absolutely no way I can commit any time to exercise (or so I thought at the time). My "me time" had become practically nil and as I was getting older, my waistline was getting bigger and my energy was disappearing. Time to workout? HA! I didn't have time to read the daily paper, forget about working out! Like most people, finding the time to work out was low on my priority list, but only because I felt like I couldn't fit it into my busy schedule. I just couldn't imagine spending hours a week working out. No way. I felt like I just didn't have the time. Not only that, but thinking that I had to spend hours a week at the gym just completely demotivated me. Then one day, I had decided to get on the scale. What happened next was....well what happened next changed the rest of my life. When I got on the scale, the number on the scale was the highest it's ever been. I weighed more then I ever weighed in my life. Not only that, but I went from a 31" waist to a 37" waist. I was disgusted. I swore I was going to do something about it. I walked into the doors on CKO in the worst shape of my life. Mike changed my life no BS. When I had to move for work, I was devastated, I really was. So I got a heavy bag and hung it in my basement, I started use the one hour heavy bag workout. I realized I stumbled upon gold. The workout put my in the zone. Now I have the Complete Series and I have been able to workout when I travel. It's amazing and simple. I wouldn't take the time to write this review if it wasn't. I love this. Truth me get it!"

Within months I shed 25 pounds and felt great!
    by BILLZZZZZZZZAs

"Every guy knows when their wife gets pregnant, you're going to gain a couple pounds for the next nine months. Well, a couple turned into about 15 so my wife and I after our son was born decided to get back into shape. We read a ton of reviews of most workouts systems. The reviews for Mike's CMWS were great so we decided to take a shot. I feel like Mike is our personal instructor and it was amazing how much he motivates you. Keep in mind I was out of shape so I truly thought I was going to die during the first workout but because of Mike I pushed through. It was a great workout and I couldn't believe how many muscle groups you work in just an hour, I was hooked! I could see the results within weeks and enjoyed working out again. Within months I shed 25 pounds and felt great! I feel like a new person."
